Quadcopter: An idea for a weekend get-away in Singapore

If you are sick of the hustle and bustle of Singapore, perhaps a quick break in the middle of the Pierce reservoir will help. Even the beach and parks are crowded nowadays.

Directions

You just have to head up to Upper Thomson road and make a quick turn into Old Upper Thomson Road. This small road brings you back in time as if there is minimal civilization. I love the winding forested roads that rise steeply up and down. The roads are lined with long tail macaques at they play and roll around the roads.

There will be a pleasant car park at the end of this road where an oasis awaits. Who would guess that the center of Singapore could withstand the rapid urbanization but preserve the natural beauty. It has been a long while since I visited the middle of Pierce Reservoir.

Leisure Activites

This is a perfect getaway from stress and noise of the city. Get your family and friends to pack up some food and have a peaceful picnic by the water. Lots of families are playing Frisbee and soccer with their little ones. Some brought nets and even fishing lines to catch some fishes.

This is also a paradise for budding photographers or those wanting to take graduation/wedding photos. In a short span of an hour I met a bout 4 groups of photographers.

If you are a fitness junkie this is also a beautiful place to have your jogging and cycling accompanied by the beautiful scenery. There use to be a fitness station and playground at the corner but it must have been shifted else where.

As for me, this is good place to fly the quadcopter. It is also where flying enthusiast like me make friends with other flying kakis too. Check out the amateur flying video clip at Pierce Reservoir.

Kampong Buangkok: Will it last?

Kampong Buangkok has earned the tileĀ “The last Kampong” in mainland Singapore. Recently I did an aerial footage around Kampong Buangkok and the amount of construction around the area is shocking. As compare to the past 2 or 3 years, urban development has fast encroached into the area.

Will the kampong survive? Watch the clip to see the current status of the kampong as of 14 March 2015
